At Hello Dame, we love the look of false lashes, but applying them can take a little bit of practice? It’s taken us a while to find out the quickest and simplest way to apply lashes so you don’t get glue or liner everywhere. We have now created the 9 Step Hello Dame Method.
STEP 1 - PRACTICE ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR WRIST FIRST
You will feel much more confident applying lashes to your eyes if you practice first on the inside of your wrist. This will give you a good idea of how the glue or magnetic liner actually adheres the lash to your eyelid.
2 - BEND THE LASH WITH YOUR FINGERS TO SOFTEN THE BAND
You can then fit your lash style to your particular eye shape, trimming if necessary. Although our lashes have already been shortened we know everyone has different eyes so you may still need to trim off the ends to make sure your lashes fit precisely to your eyelid.
3 - ALWAYS APPLY LASHES BEFORE EYESHADOW TO CLEAN DRY EYELIDS
You will get the best results if you do this as the lashes will adhere to your skin and not to the make up. Once you get the hang of applying lashes, you can of course, add them over your makeup. After completing your eyeshadow and eyeliner application of choice, curl your lashes and apply mascara. However, if you are new to lashes we suggest starting with clean, dry eyelids for the best results.
4 - BUILD UP THE LINER IN FINE LAYERS AND LET THE LINER DRY
This is a game-changer: Let the glue or liner dry for about 30 seconds. It'll make your lashes less likely to slide around when you apply. This lets the formula dry enough to become tacky, preventing you from getting glue all over the place. We normally recommend applying the clear adhesive liner directly to the lash band and not your eyelid especially if you have hooded eyelids.
5 - PRESS THE LASH TO YOUR EYELID WITH OUR ANGLED EYELASH BRUSH
Your lashes will then sit comfortably on your eyes all day. Aim to keep your fingers away from the glue and the liner as much as possible. Our Angled Eyelash Brush is the PERFECT tool to help you gently press the lash to your eye.
6 - USE A TWO PHASE OIL BASED REMOVER FOR MAGNETIC LINER ONLY
You only need to use this to remove the magnetic liner. Lancome does a fabulous one called Bi Facil. Use Micellar water for anything else.
7 - APPLY EYESHADOW AFTER YOUR LASHES TO SOFTEN OFF THE BAND EDGE
You can use eyeshadow sticks to apply colour once your lashes are on. Extra eyeliner and another coat of mascara will tie it all together, filling in any little gaps.
8 - CLEAN YOUR LINER BRUSH AND BOTTLE TOP ONCE A WEEK
You should keep your liner bottle and wand clean to stop it clumping or drying out!

SEVEN Bonus Do's and Don'ts
Now that you've got the basics of how to put on false eyelashes down, here are 7 extra makeup artist-approved dos and don'ts!
- Do Experiment with Different Pairs of False Lashes
When it comes to false lashes, one size doesn't fit all. It would be AMAZING if every single pair of lashes was perfectly customised for you but that's not necessarily the case. Play around with different styles until you find the ones you love best. We are famed for our INVISYLASH range but we also do a magnetic range called LASH ENHANCERS or a micro range called LASH KISSES.
- Do Pay Attention the Width of the Band
We usually buy lashes depending on length and volume. But, something else to look out for is a thin band. This is so important when it comes to daily wear. The thicker the band, the easier it lifts up! Our Invisylash range are styled on invisible bands making them so lightweight you won’t even know you are wearing lashes. If using a thicker band like the magnetic Lash Enhancers, then use extra lash glue or liner to make sure it doesn’t budge.
- Do Re-Curl Post-False Eyelash Application
Another trick to make the false eyelashes blend seamlessly with your own is to curl them after application, even if you already curled them before you applied them.
- Don't Glue Your Eyelids Shut
This one sounds like a no-brainer, but there's an easy hack to preventing the glue from rising up your eyelid. Keep your eyes open when applying by holding a hand mirror below your eyes, which will make it easier to see your lash line while looking straight ahead. My mantra is “CHIN UP - LOOK DOWN.”
- Do Use Eyeliner as a Guide
We love this pro-tip for how to put on fake eyelashes: If you're struggling with where to place your lashes, I suggest tracing black pencil along the lash line. This will act as an exact guide for where you should place your lashes.
- Be Patient...
Lashes may take a few tries to get right so we encourage you to be patient. If you rush the process you may get frustrated. If you take your time and follow the steps above you will have perfect lashes and will come to love them as much as we do.
And, lastly, don't forget to do your brows to finish off the look. Check out our Brilliant Brow Definer to shade in and balance your beautiful eyes.
